Geographical Indication of Kolhapur Jaggery
Since 18th Century Maharashtra has been well known for its Jaggery production. located in western part of Maharashtra Kolhapur district has been largely accepted to be sugar capital of Maharashtra and turns out jaggery that rank first in quantity and quality in India.
Kolhapur has wide and deep river basis and is blessed with fertile alluvial soil thus making it suitable for sugarcane production, sugarcane seed are conserved by farmer’s using traditional method and this is one of many other factors for the constantly sweet jaggery that is produced is Kolhapur.
Kolhapur Jaggery or “Gur” is processed using the age old techniques making it chemical free and completly Organic the alluring golden color peculiar sweetness and aroma and distinctive features of the world famous Kolhapur. Jageery which has generated the Geographical indication tag(GI) in 2014. It is exported in large quantities to group, middle east and part of South-East Asia.
